Stories

It’s not the way we’d have chosen to drum up business, that’s for sure. But it can’t be denied that, for whatever reason – collectors working from home and taking stock of their holdings, buyers looking to invest in secure, blue-chip art, or even other dealers seeking to continue doing business remotely – our wish list is growing longer by the day. Many of the most sought-after pieces are classic, market-tested examples by Impressionist, Modern and Post-War masters, with price tags to match. It seems clear that there is a real opportunity here for any collectors thinking of selling, as we continue to see demand outstripping supply.

Dickinson’s staff carrying an artwork into the gallery

Dickinson offers collectors a discreet and personalised service to ease the consignment process at every step. In the early stages, we are able to do preliminary research on the basis of photographs, and provide you with an idea of current market value of your pieces – with absolutely no cost nor obligation. We can arrange the safe collection of artworks by experienced art handlers, with comprehensive insurance in place, or have one of our specialists visit you in your home to discuss values and sale strategies. Consigning to Dickinson also means you maintain control of the process from beginning to end, with no obligation to sell unless you receive the price that you want.

Dickinson will handle all aspects of the research and marketing process as well. In addition to our knowledgeable specialists, we work closely alongside the world’s leading independent experts, museum curators and authenticating bodies in order to obtain as much information as possible about each piece. We are able to produce professionally designed brochures to showcase highlight works or to celebrate entire collections. If a work of art would benefit from cleaning, restoration or reframing, we are also happy to advise you on your options, and liaise on your behalf with leading conservators and framers.

Dickinson’s Old Masters library

We participate in four international art fairs each year, which can be an attractive option for selling, and we take advantage of our website and various online platforms to share scholarly videos and insights. Our dedicated PR team is in close touch with journalists and promoters to ensure maximum coverage where required – although our services can also be entirely discreet and under the radar if you would prefer to avoid publicity. In many cases we achieve sales privately that we would like to promote but cannot due to our obligations to honour our clients’ preferences.

Modern artworks in Dickinson’s London gallery

Dickinson has concluded the successful sale of a number of high-value artworks even during the recent lockdown period. Our longstanding relationships with our specialised art handlers and shippers have even permitted us to successfully transport pieces during a time when almost nothing was moving. We see no indications that the current demand will abate, and we are eager to source the artworks our clients are looking to buy – so please get in touch if we can assist you with the sale of a single piece or an entire collection!
