19th and 20th Century Works on Paper

May 2000 sees the re-opening of the Dickinson Roundell gallery at 19 East 66th Street. To mark this, the gallery will be mounting an exhibition of 19th and 20th Century Works on Paper. This wide ranging show, stretching from Delacroix to de Kooning will reflect the full range of artists the gallery handles in the modern field. Already one of the leading private dealers in Europe, Dickinson Roundell’s new gallery on 66th Street marks their entry into the New York public art scene. Collectors will be able to find Old Masters, British, Impressionist, 20th Century and Contemporary art on offer at the East 66th Street premises. A program of exhibitions will also be planned to make the building a “must visit” location for art lovers when on the upper East Side.

The May exhibition brings together over 70 drawings and watercolors, mainly works from private European collections which are new to the market. Commencing with early 19th Century works by Delacroix, Chasseriau and Ciceri, the first highlighted section will be works by the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists. A fine group of Degas drawings and pastels and works by Cézanne, Pissarro, Gauguin and van Gogh lead the way. Following on is a wonderful group of early Picasso drawings, a superb Fauve watercolor by Derain as well as works by Modigliani, Foujita, Braque and Matisse. The later 20th Century is well represented by Chagall, Schiele, Schwitters, Klee, Marini and Dubuffet. More contemporary artists such as Christo, de Kooning, Barnett Newman, Eva Hesse and David Smith will also be included in the exhibition.
