Walter Ernest Webster was a British illustrator and portraitist best known for his graceful depictions of young women. Webster attended the Royal Academy Schools and exhibited there nearly ever year for the remainder of his career. He identified as his inspiration French18th Century masters such as Boucher, and his best-known work, Sonata, also features a young violinist (McLean Museum and Art Gallery, Inverclyde). Webster painter Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on two occasions, once as monarch and once, in watercolour, as a young princess.
